Village Progress - Supporting Rural Development in Southwest China
Village Progress (VP) is a non-profit organization with a goal to connect rural communities with initiatives to improve upon village conservation, health and education.
Along with China's recent emergence as a global force, the last decade has witnessed a migration from the countryside to the city on a scale larger than any in history. This is due to both the deteriorating conditions in China's farming communities and the economic opportunities that cities provide.
VP aims to improve upon education, health care and income levels in rural areas through participatory development programs. By helping villages to coordinate their own projects, VP will serve as a catalyst to better living conditions while promoting new opportunities in the countryside.
China's rural areas have always been the heart of the country - the breadbasket that feeds China's growth. Their fading influence would only amplify the population and consumption crises China now faces. By working with villagers to fuel grassroots social and economic growth, VP aspires to play a role in the reemergence of China's farming communities.
